A three day writing retreat in North Yorkshire with Clare Shaw and Anna Chilvers
Time on bogs is slow - they grow at a rate of one millimetre per year. An established bog holds a huge depth of time in its peaty depths; a new bog is a delicate thing full of potential. This three-day retreat is a chance to write in bog-time.
Over the long weekend we will learn from the bog, both thematically and in terms of writing process. The retreat will include writing workshops, a chance to share your work and ideas with others, and free time to get stuck into your writing. With miles of moorland to choose from, on Saturday morning, we’ll visit a truly exceptional bog on the North York Moors to get up close and personal with its 18,000 years of peat growth, its embryonic raised bogs, and its unparalleled biodiversity including dragonflies, curlew and unique botany.
The retreat will be held at Cober Hill, near Scarborough, from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 November. Set within 11 acres of meadows with its own secret path to the sea, this historic hotel is just minutes from the North York Moors and Heritage Coast.
The cost of the retreat, including full board, is £435.
Rooms are all single use and en-suite, and most are twin/triple.
There are a limited number of double rooms at a cost of £460, and some smaller single rooms for £405 – these are on a first come first served basis.
You may reserve a place by paying a deposit of £100. The remainder of the fee will need to be paid by Friday 9 October. (If you would like to pay in instalments please get in touch and we can sort out a plan.)
